What Is A Detoxification Fasting Diet

Detoxification fasting diets have become a popular way for people to cleanse their bodies of the toxins, chemicals and pollutants that build up in our systems. A weekend of nothing but juice and water is an effective way to remove these toxins.
The modern American diet and lifestyle is rife with toxins, pollutants, chemicals, artificial ingredients and medications that our bodies were never intended to deal with. Fasting is nothing new and has been practiced by people for thousands of years for a variety of reasons. The Chinese have long fasted every spring to refresh the body after a long winter. It has also been a part of religious practices the world over. Today fasting has caught on as a healthy practice and several popular fasts are used by thousands of people every year.
Experts recommend preparing your body for the fast by eliminating alcohol, nicotine, meat, fish, gluten, dairy, caffeine and sugar at least seven days before you begin. The simplest detox fast is a water-only fast. As its name implies, you drink nothing but water. This kind of fast is not recommended for longer than a weekend. Juice-only fasts are similar to the water-only fasts, but you only drink juice and water. Obviously you would want to use all-natural juices, preferably organic since you are trying to rid your body of chemicals and toxins. Some fasts add simple foods to the juice and water such as brown rice, miso soup, and organic steamed vegetables. Fasts are not appropriate for everyone; if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have certain medical conditions such as diabetes or liver disease, you should not fast unless under the direct care of a doctor.
There are many reasons for undertaking a detox fasting diet, and many methods to detoxify your body. Be sure to research and understand your fast before you begin so it will be effective and safe.
